New Delhi: The Apex Court directed the central to crackdown on child pornography and the rise in increase of online abuse of kids. The center government has told the apex court that it has roped in the international police agency Interpol for this purpose.
According to the court on February 26, it had noted that there is a surge in photographs and videos on the internet which shows that kids are being sexually exploited and there is a sharp rise in the number of pornographic sites. The court has asked the center to take an immediate action.
The IT ministry has given approval to a formal agreement when in the department of telecommunication has obtained a list maintained by the Interpol containing the domain names of child and sexual abuse contents and act as an appropriate agency of the government to direct its license ISPs to expeditiously remove every material found violating the IT act.
The mechanism to obtain the list containing the various domain names hosting the contents of child sexual abuse is being worked out in direct consultation with the Crime Bureau of investigation. The apex court has asked the center to suggest the various ways to ban child pornography in all forms in the country. It has said that the national cannot afford to carry on any experiment with such issues. In the name of liberty and freedom of expression the nation can’t allow screening of such explicit things in the internet.
The Apex Court after hearing the PIL filed by the Indore based advocate Kamlesh Vaswani and Supreme Court women lawyers seeking a direction to the government to adopt various measures towards improvement in effectiveness of blocking child pornography. The bench has asked ASG to take instructions on how fast it can actually block the various sites on child pornography.
