Gujarat: The recent craze of Pokémon Go has finally landed in the doorstep of the Gujarat High Court. The court has filed a PIL (Public Interest Litigation seeking a ban on the game for hurting religious sentiments of certain communities, by displaying images of eggs in holy places like temples.
Regarding this particular case, the bench led by Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy has issued notices to the State and Central governments as well as to the Niantic Inc, a US software development company and to the developers of the game Pokémon Go.
The petitioner of this case Anil Dave alleged that images of eggs in places of worship are completely against the religion notion of the people. It propagates vegetarianism. In the game it is clearly showing that people have to get virtual eggs from poke Stops including the temples. The main concern that got highlighted is the inclusion of non vegetarian items in a religious area. This is turn has affected the religion sentiments of certain section of the people in the society. The game also insulted the Hindu religion by a way of mockery.
The game has been a witness to several such incidents which took place while playing. Many reports have been filed regarding this case. Pokémon Go has earned the wrath of people for being a threat to life and violation of privacy. The game has been into the verge of destroying every kind of personal matter.
Few days back a Russian blogger was arrested for paying the game in a cathedral which in turn has affected the religious sentiments of the people. On the other hand the game has been banned in Iran. Being a very conservative society, Iranian didn’t allow Pokémon Go to flourish. The game has also been sued in New Jersey as it often trespasses into private property.
The case of filing a PIL has created a huge pandemonium in the social media. Even before the official launch of the game in India, the developers have been issued a court summon.
